Yep, that's why I envision this as only being active at certain times - when there are defined events going on that are of interest to large numbers of people, say maybe potential audience sizes of 10 million or 100 million or more. Most of the time, anything posted in the community would be muted by moderators, regardless of topic. The earthquake happens, we activate the community for a couple days or a week, then we deactivate the community when things settle down again.

Alright, while this is a great idea to help filter unnecessary event report/news - I want to add that..

If the community operates that way,it simply means some parts of the world would have to wait till something known internationally occur. Trust me, this could be a little bit scanty.

for instance, in Nigeria, local events can attract big audiences.

Maybe finding a balance between major events and local interests could be considered?

Some times ago, there was this contest that pennsif organised called "Local News".

It was trending then...,because a lot of people were participating and because there were good votes 😉.

He also highlights some good ones and gave corrections on some that were not in order.

Few people stick to it...but later retired, I can't tell why.

Infact, I have tried running series of contest in the time past on "Breaking news"...

Unfortunately, a dedicated community for a particular topic on Steem doesn’t sustain for a long time without joining other topics just to catch many users and earn community supports and favours from the whales.

Oops, few does. but the admins must be very strict.

Today you will see a community designated or created for animals...will be writing diary game, a community created for news will be writing on tutorials , diarygame and all other topics that are off the main purpose of that community.

And once the community is build up..., the admins will power down the community account and zoom off, or sometines...start fighting themselves online.

This is the reason, I don't support any community anymore. But I support great ideas like this
